UNSW Founders has announced the launch of a new accelerator program it says will fast-track six clean technology startups.

The new Climate 10x program is being backed by the UNSW-headquartered Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) program and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation-launched venture fund manager Virescent Ventures.

The program begins on August 2 and concludes October 6, with a demo day on October 26.

Participants will receive $120,000 in seed funding from Virescent, with potential for follow-on investment, according to a statement from UNSW on Tuesday.

According to Gabriella Nunes, Senior Manager of Entrepreneurship at UNSW, the program “will empower founders who are moving the needle on decarbonisation, and play a significant part in accelerating Australia’s transition to a renewable economy.”

Virescent Partner Blair Pritchard added that “companies that participate in Climate 10x will learn from the deep sector expertise of UNSW Founders, TRaCE, Virescent and our combined networks.

“They will form a network themselves of like minded founders, mentors and industry leaders who are committed to supporting the growth of the climate tech industry in the coming decade.”

The program is open to applications until May 29, from companies focussed on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy generation and circular materials.
