v2food which developed the Hungry Jack’s plant-based Rebel Whopper has raised $35 million in venture capital to fund R&D and build a production facility.
The company, which used CSIRO R&D capabilities to launch the new burger earlier this year as reported in @AuManufacturing, raised the cash from Australian and Asian interests.
Tipping in funds, according to reports, were Main Sequence Ventures, Horizons Ventures, the Fairfax family’s private investment vehicle Marinya Capital, and Sequoia Capital China.
The venture is said to be eyeing a regional location for a $20 million legume processing facility, and planning to launch retail products including a ‘mince’ before Christmas.
