South Korean steelmaker POSCO has joined the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT) a development the CRC cited as “an important milestone” in its global collaboration efforts, “particularly in developing low-carbon ironmaking technologies.”
According to a statement from HILT on Wednesday, it reflects both the benefits of collaboration with international companies and the commitment of the Korean partner to securing sustainable inputs and advancing green steel production.
It joins as the first member under a new partnership level introduced by HILT, specifically aimed at large global steelmakers and other companies with strong business ties to the CRC’s Core and Key-level partners.
“POSCO’s leadership in the global steel industry and its strategy for developing low-carbon steelmaking will contribute to heavy industry’s transition to a net-zero future,” said HILT CEO Jenny Selway.
HILT is a ten-year CRC that was launched in 2022, with Core partners including Fortescue, the CSIRO, Hancock Iron Ore, and South32.
