SA government announces $20 million purpose-built space manufacturing hub

The South Australian government has announced a partnership with four companies and $20 million in funding for “the first dedicated space manufacturing hub – the Australian Space Park.”

The state’s trade and investment minister Stephen Patterson announced on Wednesday morning that the new site would “establish the purpose built facility, which is expected to create more than 200 highly skilled space industry roles.

“The Hub further cements South Australia as the nation’s Space State and provides a vital manufacturing link to the local space industry value chain.”

The four companies are Fleet Space Technologies, ATSpace, Q-CTRL and Alauda Aeronautics.

“The hub aligns with Australia’s space strategy that aims to triple the space sector’s contribution to GDP to over $12 billion per annum and create up to an additional 20,000 jobs by 2030,” said premier Steven Marshall.

“The Australian Space Park is the next step in positioning Australia’s space community to deliver the entire space value chain, enabling the design, manufacture, launch and mission control of new space capabilities.”

The department of trade and investment released short videos from each company, as well as an artist’s impression of what the finished, purpose-built site would look like (see below.)

More to come.
