Melbourne-based SCORKL has launched what it says is a “world-first, portable, electric SCUBA Air Compressor”, offering automatic refills of the brand’s portable scuba system.

In a statement on Monday, the company said the new compressor and a new battery pack were part of its SCORKL 2.0 – Electric system, which will be available through pre-orders on the Kickstarter platform on Tuesday.

The new compressor and battery pack are designed to offer automatic, easy refills of the SCORKL device, in minutes, at the press of a button. The battery pack uses “everyday 18V power tool batteries” and is compatible with batteries used by Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt and Bosch products.

The battery pack also has an LED light and USB Ports to charge mobile devices, said the company.

“Traditional SCUBA air compressors are prohibitively heavy and expensive, meaning they can only be stored and operated in dive stores or in a garage,” explained founder and inventor, David Hallamore.

“The SCORKL Electric Compressor, in stark contrast, is lightweight, inexpensive and portable. Not only can you plug it into the wall, but you can power it from a boat or car battery as well.”.

According to SKORKL, the product is the first since it debuted their “original James Bond-esque” scuba system in 2017, which received $USD 2 million in pre-orders and sold 8,000 units to 65 countries.

The Kickstarter launches on August 15 at 10:00 EDT and runs until 10:00 EDT on September 8. The page can be accessed here.
