The Queensland government has named September “Manufacturing Month” for the state ahead of the Inside Advanced Manufacturing 2023 showcase, which will be held September 4 – 15.

The month-long celebration was launched on Friday at Pinkenba’s Austrack Equipment, an equipment hire specialist that also makes SafeVac pipe lifters used on the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline.

“As the only state in Australia to dedicate a month to the manufacturing industry, it’s clear that Queensland is blazing a trail for manufacturers around the country,” said acting premier Steven Miles.

“Queensland Manufacturing Month will demonstrate to the rest of the country why Queensland is the best place to build, buy and invest.

“I want to see more products stamped with ‘Made in Queensland’ and we’re well on that way to that becoming a reality.”

As well as the two-week Inside Advanced Manufacturing event, now in its fourth year and to involve 21 manufacturers and 10 support organisations, the month will also include a Manufacturing Parliamentary Showcase, according to the statement.

The latter event would feature “more than 25 exhibitors” at Queensland Parliament House. A date for this was not given.

“Queensland manufacturers are innovative, hard-working, and, above all, resilient. Their creativity during the COVID pandemic, to pivot to other products to capitalise on new opportunities is testament to this,” said manufacturing minister Glenn Butcher.

“Here today at Austrack we can see their innovation in action – they spotted a gap in the market and they filled it with vacuum-technology machines that are now at work on one of the state’s largest projects, the $983 million Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline.”
