Venture-backed launch company Gilmour Space Technologies has announced it will roll out industrial design and product lifecycle management software from Siemens across its Queensland facilities.

In a statement from Siemens on Thursday, software from its Xcelerator portfolio would help increase Gilmour’s “cross-functional collaboration through unified digital frameworks across various areas” including the launch vehicles and satellites it manufactures, as well as R&D and launch site operations.

CEO of Gilmour Space, Adam Gilmour, said, “We’re unique in Australia in providing a full spectrum of launch services to our global customers – from the launch vehicle and orbital launch site to the satellite platforms and mission management.

“Siemens’ software will play a key role in our ongoing research, product and solution development as we grow into a globally competitive launch provider.”

Supplier and implementation provider PhoenxPLM will assist the transition to the new software.

Congratulating Gilmour on its progress so far, Samantha Murray, Vice President and Managing Director of Siemens Digital Industries Software in ANZ said, “It’s fantastic to have an innovative and progressive startup such as Gilmour Space use our technology to scale new heights and revolutionise the future of [the] Australian space industry.

“No matter what industry, digitalisation helps level the playing field globally.”

Gilmour was founded in 2012 and has been focussed on rockets since 2015.

The company is currently working towards a planned launch of its Eris spacecraft into low earth orbit from the Bowen Orbital Spaceport by the end of the year.
