SMEs awarded over $11 m in defence grants

The federal government has awarded more than $11 million in grants to 20 Australian small businesses in the latest round of the Sovereign Industrial Capability Grants Program.

The SICP program is designed to lift the competitiveness of small-to-medium sized enterprises (fewer than 200 employees) that align with defence priority areas. It offers between $50,000 and $1 million in dollar-matched funding to SMEs contributing to local capabilities, and aims to build the capacity and resilience of Australian SMEs.

Among successful companies (see full list below) were RUAG Australia, which earned $918,935 to “Enhance manufacture of aerospace platform components” and Franmarine Underwater Services, awarded $949,171 to help it “Establish a facility to service Royal Australian Navy vessels in maintenance activities”.
