State, federal governments to develop $2.5 million SA Wine Recovery Program

Manufacturing News

The federal and South Australian governments have announced that they are establishing a $2.5 million SA Wine Recovery Program to aid the industry’s adjustment to “adverse events and market disruptions” in recent years.

According to a joint statement from federal agriculture minister Julie Collins and state primary industries minister Clare Scriven, the program is in response to the Viticulture and Wine Sector Working Group, run by agriculture ministers, and which “consulted extensively” with impacted wine regions around Australia on issues related to oversupply of red wine.

The new program will have streams including around vineyard waste management, building domestic demand and regional grape and wine capability. How these work will be based on further input from the South Australian Wine Industry Association and Wine Grape Council of South Australia.

“This investment will further assist in addressing some of the key issues in South Australia raised through the national Viticulture and Wine Sector Working Group that I initiated earlier in the year,” said Scriven.
