Tyre recycler steps up tech export efforts with new US appointment

Central NSW-based tyre recycling business Green Distillation Technologies has announced the hire of a marketing agent in the United States.

GDT has appointed John J Lyons of J Lyons Marketing to promote its recycling process to “US tire collection industry and equity funds,” according to a statement.

“We have been inundated with enquiries to export our technology for recovering the energy left in the tyre when it has reached the end of its life and because of its size, the US presents its own unique opportunities in market size, entrepreneurship and financing,” said chief operating officer Trevor Bayley.

“Therefore, it is our intention to use John’s services to cut the number of players to the best two or three so we can negotiate a deal which will be best for all parties.

GDT currently operates a facility at Warren, NSW, where it uses its Randall Process to heat tyres and separate them into oil, carbon and steel. According to the company, the process can turn 10 kilograms of end-of-life tyres into four litres of oil, two kilograms of carbon and two kilograms of steel.

It is also capital raising to establish a second site in Toowoomba.

Last month GDT announced a joint development agreement with CarbonScape in New Zealand to investigate processing carbon from tyres into high-purity graphite.
