REDARC has completed stage one of its Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub at Lonsdale, Adelaide, where the company plans to create 200 new jobs by 2032, driven by its expanding Defence & Space division.

According to a statement from the company on Tuesday, it is building a “high-tech, next-generation” and custom-designed facility, at a site that formerly hosted global R&D for plastic lenses business Sola International.

“This hub will bring together engineers, technicians and defence experts to create cutting edge systems, from advanced power solutions to space-ready technologies, that support our partners locally, nationally and internationally for decades to come,” said Managing Director Anthony Kittel.

Stage one received $1 million in South Australian government support.

According to REDARC, when finished, the hub will meet the highest defence security standards, accommodate production, R&D and testing, as well as “collaborative areas designed to engage start-ups and students.”

Kittel said that the “engaging, dynamic place” will generate collaboration in “two of the most exciting  growth industries.”

He added: “It will not only accelerate REDARC’s growth but also nurture the next generation of innovators by giving  them access to world-class equipment and secure spaces to test technology.

“From mechanical and software engineers to high-level assembly technicians, we’re creating pathways into high-value careers.”

The defence and space division of REDARC currently supplies defence projects including the NASAMS Ground Based Air Defence System for the Australian Army, Hunter Class Frigates for the Royal Australian Navy, and Hawkei and Bushmaster vehicles.

REDARC was founded in 1979, and has been owned by Anthony and Michele Kittel for the past 28 years.
