Brisbane’s Cook Medical Australia celebrates 40th year of manufacturing

Cook Medical Australia is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Cook employs over 600 in Australia, and its Brisbane site is the headquarters for its Asia-Pacific operations. CMA originally set up in Melbourne in 1979, before it moved to Brisbane Technology Park in 1988 as one of the first tenants. Cook’s global headquarters are in the United States, with manufacturing operations also taking place in Denmark, Ireland and Australia.

“We are excited to celebrate 40 years of history, innovation, manufacturing and export success with our colleagues, friends and families – not only here in Australia, but across the globe,’ said Dr Samih Nabulsi Cook Medical Australia’s Vice-President and Managing Director

“We’ve been proud to play a part in Australia’s biomed sector, employing more than 50 engineers and scientists who are exploring ways to contribute to our industry and ultimately help patients around the world. ‘We wouldn’t be here today without the hard work and commitment of all our employees—60 of whom have been with the company for more than 20 years.”

Over 94 per cent of what is made by the company is exported, and its recent awards include a Premier of Queensland Export Award last year.

Cook has two product families: endovascular stent grafts for aortic aneurysm sufferers and IVF fertilisation. Both were invented and developed in Australia.
