Molycop acquires mill monitoring company DCL

Grinding media specialist Molycop has announced the acquisition of mill monitoring company Digital Control Labs.

Florida, US-based DCL makes three different monitoring systems for cement and semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mills, which provide real-time information on the assets’ operations.

“This acquisition will enhance our position at the forefront of providers of digital solutions for the global mining and industrial markets,” said Molycop CEO Jim Anderson, adding that it represented an important step in the company’s digital transformation.

“Our vision is to leverage DCL’s market reputation, product offering, domain expertise and intellectual property in mill monitoring solutions, to build upon Molycop’s current technical service and digital technology portfolio, to create the premier platform for mineral processing circuit monitoring and optimization.”

Molycop is the world leader in grinding media, manufacturing this at 12 sites globally, and beginning as the Commonwealth Steel Company at Newcastle in 1918

It has been owned by private equity firm American Industrial Partners since 2016, following the collapse of Molycop’s former parent company, Arrium.

Digital Control Labs began in 1998 as electronics consulting firm DiCon Labs.
