SEA Electric wins heavy vehicle industry innovation award

Electric truck drive train manufacturer SEA Electric has won Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia’s Product Innovation award for 2021.

The Australian-born and Los Angeles-headquartered company won the award for its battery electric powered truck range, including the SEA 300 EV and SEA 500 EV models, which were launched in 2021 and are “the first comprehensive battery electric powered truck range available globally”.

The category at the awards had nine finalists, and recognised companies which had either designed and used new technology for their own use or for road freight industry users.

“Producing these trucks here in Australia for Australia, and distributing and supporting them via a national dealer network, is resonating positively within the marketplace,” said Glen Walker, SEA Electric Vice President Asia – Pacific Region, in a statement.

“We are proud of this award, and we continue to be proud of our achievements in producing a full range of class-leading innovative trucks that normalise zero-emission propulsion.

SEA Electric assembles trucks here and in the US from semi-knocked down (SKD) kits. It develops and manufactures its drive trains in Australia.

Last month the company announced its biggest-ever order, to supply 1,150 new SEA Hino M5 EV trucks — fitted with the SEA-Drive 120a Power System — to GATR EV.
