Tindo Solar will supply 30 megawatts’ worth of solar PV panels, made at the company’s Adelaide factory, for installation at the Bowen Water Pipeline project.
In a statement on Friday, the nation’s only solar panel manufacturer said it will supply these to the North Queensland project – managed by the Bowen Pipeline Company – over 2026 and 2027.
According to the project owner’s website, it will supply water to Bowen township, Gumlu and Guthalungra and cover a total of 182 kilometres (a 116-kilometre main line and 66 kilometres of branches.)
Tindo said the nation’s first “net zero pipeline” will use 52,174 of its 575-Watt Walara utility panels, which “will power the pumps and other machinery”.
Sean Brown, Director of Bowen Pipeline Company, said, “We are delighted to be fulfilling our goals of utilising Australian-made solar panels and other Australian world-leading technologies such as onsite HDPE pipe manufacturing and fibre optic leak detection.”
Tindo’s CEO Richard Petterson said being included in the project was vindication of Tindo’s commitment to quality, and its 60 staff.
“We’ve argued for a number of years that cheap imports come with a cost that is never counted, and that’s the carbon miles of the imported goods and the jobs that are not created in Australia,” said Petterson.
“Bowen Water Pipeline brings together farmers, indigenous landowners and business interests in a privately-owned water infrastructure project. We are proud to be a part of it.”
Tindo recently donated 74 Walara series panels to the Tanunda Cricket Club (pictured.) Walara is the company’s eighth generation of modules.
