Cold spray additive manufacturing company Titomic has announced a new partnership with The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), aimed at advancing development and application of the AM method.
In a statement on Monday, the ASX-listed company said the partnership will link its technology with the “world-class research capabilities” of UAH, “a premier research university” with “a reputation for cutting-edge research and a strong focus on innovation”.
According to the statement, the pair will work together on joint research initiatives, technology development, and commercialisation of solutions.
Titomic’s CEO Jim Simpson said: “Together, we will push the frontiers of cold spray technology and additive manufacturing, delivering solutions that will have a profound impact on industries from aerospace to energy.”
The initial focus of the collaboration will be on better understanding the material property drivers in enhancing material performance “for aerospace, [defence], energy, oil, and gas applications” and addressing “key areas such as repair, coatings, and the development of advanced products.”
Further efforts are expected to involve development and application of other materials and technologies, including cold spray AM supporting advancements in automation, robotics, and augmented reality.
Dr. Charles L. Karr, UAH President, added, “By working together, we aim to accelerate the development of novel materials and manufacturing methods, shaping the future of the industry.”
Simpson was announced as Titomic’s incoming CEO last October, as the company conducted a capital raise eventually worth $30 million. He began in the role on January 1.
In October the company also announced the establishment of a manufacturing presence and operational headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama.
Titomic was established in Melbourne in 2014 to commercialise technology developed at the CSIRO, and listed on the ASX in 2017.
