A medical innovation accelerator located within Monash Technology Precinct and focussing on cardiovascular, kidney and metabolic disease opened on Wednesday.
According to a statement from Monash University, the The Monash Velos Accelerator was assisted through a $17.5 million Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund grant and “will embed commercialisation capabilities” at the precinct.
The accelerator will “foster stronger cross-sector collaboration and expedite innovation” and “unite clinicians, researchers, and industry partners”, according to the university.
“The accelerator will house commercialisation teams and strategic industry partners working to deliver health and clinical innovations,” said Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Sharon Pickering.
“They will drive the creation of high-value jobs, intellectual property, and start-ups, attracting global investment into Victoria.”
It is located opposite the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH), which incorporates the Monash Victorian Heart Institute (VHI.)
Early tenants will include the team developing the university’s $60 million MAVERIC supercomputer.
Work to build MAVERIC – which is being developed with NVIDIA, Dell Technologies and the CDC Data Centres (CDC) – will begin this year. The computer is expected to be activated “in early 2026”.
