Nourish Ingredients opens Netherlands site, targets Europe as “next stage of our growth”

Food tech company Nourish Ingredients, which makes animal-free fats via precision fermentation, has established a global commercial hub in the Netherlands, which it expects to be “fully operational by 2026”.

According to a statement from the company on Wednesday, the site at BioPartner 5 in Leiden (pictured) will include a demonstration kitchen – enabling food manufacturers to see Nourish Ingredients’ fats in their own products – as well as specialised food and sensory laboratories for applications development.

The Canberra-based company’s co-founder and CTO, Anna El Tachy, has relocated to lead the European operations.

El Tahchy said that Europe offered “an ideal environment for the next stage of our growth,” including world-leading food companies and a supportive ecosystem.

“Combined with a deep pool of scientific and commercial talent and its reputation as a hub for food innovation, Europe is the natural next step in our global journey,” she added.

Co-founder and CEO James Petrie added: “Establishing our commercial hub in the Netherlands allows us to work directly with European customers and partners, tapping into local networks that will accelerate our growth.”

Nourish was founded by Petrie, El Tahchy and fellow CSIRO scientist Dr Ben Leita in 2019, raised $14.5 million in seed funding two years after that, and then $45 million through a Series A round in 2022. Its backers include CSIRO’s venture fund, Main Sequence.
