Electrolyser maker Hysata has announced Dean Dalla Valle, an experienced resources industry leader, as its first chairman.

Dalla Vale has held roles including Chief Commercial Officer at BHP and Chief Executive Officer at Pacific National over a four-decade career in resources and infrastructure. He joins the company – which closed a $42.5 million round in August – as a “perfect fit” for the board, said CEO Paul Barrett.

“We will draw on his extensive global experience managing multi-billion-dollar deals and passion for the local region to get this home-grown technology to global scale,” added the CEO.

“Additionally, his knowledge of the resources sector can be applied to advance the renewable energy industry and create value-add green exports for Australia including green iron, alumina, ammonia and methanol,” Hysata CEO Paul Barrett concluded.”

Dalla Vale is a native to the Illawarra region, the release notes, and began his career as a 17-year-old electrical apprentice at BHP.

Hysata launched in June 2021, and is commercialising technology developed at the University of Wollongong.

Hysata has said it is on track to deliver hydrogen “well below” $2 per kilogram when it reaches the manufacturing stage of electrolyser development.
